Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I work closely with each student to understand specific gaps and concentrate on helping them to fix those gaps. I help them to strategize and solve problems and work on any fundamental issues or questions they may have. I believe problem solving will help them think and help them to bring different concepts and theories they learn together and learn if they have questions. My goal is to lay a strong foundation that will hold them well for all current and any future challenges
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two masters from two reputed colleges in the world. I have been teaching kids for a very long time and help them succeed. I am fortunate to be gifted to connect to kids so well that I have been able to encourage them and motivate them to think and strategize and fall in love with the learning of what ever it may be.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I help students with ACT prep, Math and Physics for high school students and Chemistry for all levels up to college that includes Organic Chemistry in College. I charge the same rate of $50+ per hour with recommended 90 min each session that is flexible. I allow students to change schedule at short notice without any penalty and don't charge kids who cancel for valid worldly reasons.
How did you get started teaching?
I used to teach while i was in college and then later took up teaching my kids since 2009. I was able to help my son secure National Merit scholar and my son and daughter to get 34 in ACT. I was a mentor of a robotics team with 14 high school students whom I coached Chemistry and Physics who are in Princeton, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Washington Univ in St. Louis , Purdue Univ and other univ. I am passionate about teaching. I was a counsellor for a merit badge in Boys Scouts of America few years ago and Judge in World Championship in Robotics and hence my background has been thoroughly checked to make sure I could be around kids. I am a tutor with another organization and they check my background professionally periodically too.
What types of students have you worked with?
Kids from 9th grade to seniors in College and with kids who have learning disabilities to kids who are very smart. So I can shift gears to get to the exact same level of each student's requirement and work with them.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Saturn and Jupiter conjunction in 2020. Scientific research to discover the Covid-19 vaccination in 20-21. Recently the launch of James Webb
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Interview them and see if they are able to communicate with you well. Check if they have enough literature to challenge you. Set tangible goals of what you are expecting to achieve and check if they could deliver. Ideally tutors should deliver 300% because they are supposed to be motivators and help you make you gain confidence and take on challenges. Don't hesitate to walk away if they don't deliver.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What are the short term goals in terms of quizzes and tests. ? Where do you want to be in one month, three months in terms or grade ?
2. What level of understanding you would like to be in within a few months. ?how many times should we meet for that ?
3. Is there any discount for long term student if you like what the tutor is doing for you ?
4. Will you be able to contact the tutors other times if you are stuck with any doubts for a short time at no cost ?
