Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
New students will complete a pretest worksheet, as well as a diagnostics test to assess strengths and weaknesses in each of the sections so I can create a custom lesson plan tailored to each student. Sessions are 90 minutes and on average students complete the program in 8 -10 sessions, meeting once or twice each week. Sessions are designed to engage students and effectively review content, learn strategies and review homework.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been tutoring for 4 years, created online programs that engage students and improved their scores. My students that scored in the mid 20's improved their scores on average by 4 points and a few students improved 9 points. I also have students that scored 29 - 31, and after completing the program their scores improved to 35, a few scored 36.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I also do workshops for each section of the test. Pricing varies for 1 on 1 sessions or small group sessions.
What types of students have you worked with?
Many of my students attend Pembroke, Barstow, or a private school in the Kansas City area. I also have a few students from the Shawnee Mission School District. All of my students are interested in improving their score and understand their effort directly effects their results.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One student improved their score 9 points to meet college requirements, recieve scholarships, attend the college they chose, and represent the college on the soccer team. I love the texts and calls I get 2 - 4 weeks after each test from students with their test results, happy to be done with the test.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Its important that the lesson plan is tailored to your learning style, knowledge of content, your timeline, and goals. My sessions average 90 minutes, but if students need me to expand on a topic or have trouble I continue the session so students have a good understanding of the lesson (at no charge).
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. When are you planning on taking the test?
2. What days you would like to meet? (Once or twice a week)
3. Would you like a 1 on 1 session? (in-person or via skype) Or small group?
4. What score do the colleges you are applying to require?
5. Do you have test anxiety?
6. Are you ready to have some fun while reviewing the content, learning the tricks the test writers employ, and strategies that will help you get the score you need?
