Sandra Ariela T. says, "I studied with Yehuda for my MBA in finance. In addition to acquiring the in-depth understanding I needed to succeed in my courses, I genuinely had fun working with Yehuda. He's dead serious about the work -- and simultaneously hilariously funny. I have a propensity toward anxiety surrounding my studies; I discovered that what I needed more than a teacher of material was someone who oozed calm and confidence. If you have the good fortune to study with Yehuda, your worries will quickly be put to rest." Read more

Hello, my name is Richard Hua, and I specialize in teaching Mathematics, with a particular focus on competitive math. I have extensive experience teaching all levels of math, from elementary school to college. Additionally, I have successfully helped my students improve their AMC and AIME scores. When it comes to the stress of learning math, I can fully empathize with the pressures students face, especially when tackling complex and abstract topics. Amanda F. says, "I started tutoring sessions with Marco to prep for an aptitude exam that involved a lot of math. I hadn’t taken a course since 2016 when I graduated high school. After a couple of months of tutoring/brushing up on skills I honestly feel way more confident and it’s all because of Marco! He is super knowledgeable about the subject. He tailors the way he teaches based on the student, whether that be by doing an example and then having them try some on their own or by working through problems together. Also his previous experience as a teacher definitely shows as he is great at breaking down difficult topics in a way that is easy for students to understand. Literally cannot recommend him enough and if I need any more tutoring in the future I definitely know who to reach out too. :))" Read more

Fun fact about me is that I’m a dual sport mathlete. I partner with students on a one-on-one basis in the SAT and ACT through SoFlo Tutors, my tutoring agency. Your MCAT Tutoring questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Tutors.

How much does an MCAT tutor cost?

MCAT tutors charge an average of $50 to $150 per hour. Tutors provide personalized, one-on-one, or small group instruction to help you prepare for the MCAT. They may focus on test-taking strategies, review practice materials, and help you improve your performance on practice tests.

Some students hire a tutor who specializes in the subjects where they are weakest. For example, if chemistry is your lowest-scoring area, you may hire a tutor to help you with that section of the MCAT only. Some tutors may offer package deals for multiple sessions or long-term commitments.

What is the MCAT?

The MCAT is a standardized computer test that most medical schools require for admission. It is given throughout the year at Pearson VUE testing centers around the world. Medical schools use MCAT scores to gauge a student's readiness for the challenges of medical school.

The 6-hour, 15-minute test has four multiple-choice sections that assess a student's knowledge of chemistry and physics, biology and biochemistry, psychology and social behavior, and critical reasoning skills.

How long is the MCAT?

The MCAT is an all-day exam. The actual seated time for the exam is 7 hours 30 minutes, which includes instructions and breaks in between sections. While these breaks are optional, they are recommended. The actual testing time is 6 hours and 15 minutes long for the 4 sections.

What is a good MCAT score?

A good MCAT score depends on the school you want to attend. The median MCAT score is 500 on a scale from 472 to 528. The highest-ranked med schools typically have higher average score requirements. Less competitive medical schools take students with lower scores.

Most students attempt to score as well as or better than the average score of admitted students. The higher the average score at your preferred school, the higher you will need to score to have a chance at admission to their program.

What is on the MCAT?

The MCAT has 4 sections designed to test your science knowledge, including:

  • Biological and Biochemical foundations of Living Systems– This 95 minute section includes 59 multiple-choice questions about biology, organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry concepts.
  • Chemical and Physical foundations of Biological Systems– This 95 minute section includes 59 multiple-choice questions about biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, and physics concepts.
  • Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior Section – This 95 minute section includes 59 multiple-choice questions about psychology, sociology, and biology concepts.
  • Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills Section – This 90 minute section includes 53 multiple-choice questions that test your comprehension, analysis, and reasoning skills by asking you to analyze information provided in written passages.

How hard is the MCAT?

The difficulty of the MCAT depends on how well you are prepared, your familiarity with the test content, and your abilities as a test-taker. The test is considered difficult because it is a full day exam covering a vast number of scientific topics.

The test is high stakes since the score can determine your admission to medical school. This pressure to do well, along with the time-pressure of the test itself, make it one of the hardest exams you will ever take.

How many times can you take the MCAT?

Students are permitted to take the MCAT 7 times in their lifetime. Additionally, your attempts are limited to 3 times in a single testing year, or 4 times in a two-year period. No shows or void attempts are included in these limits.

A voided attempt is when you choose at the end of the exam to not have your attempt scored. Students use this option when they feel they performed poorly and do not want that score to count on their permanent record. Instead, they void the exam and are not scored. The test attempt counts toward the annual limit, but the possibly low score is not recorded for medical schools to see.

How to save money on the MCAT?

Here are some helpful suggestions that can save you money on your MCAT costs:

  • Apply for financial aid through the AAMC Fee Assistance Program.
  • Keep your original test date and testing site to avoid costly rescheduling fees. If you must make changes, do it as early as possible to avoid higher fees.
  • Use free or low-cost study materials rather than more costly MCAT tutors or prep courses.
  • Prepare well to ensure a good score on your first test attempt. Test attempts are costly and limited.

What questions should I ask an MCAT tutor?

Some questions you should ask a potential MCAT tutor include:

  • How much is your tutoring rate per hour?
  • Do you offer packages or discounts for long-term commitments?
  • What is your educational background?
  • Have you taken the MCAT yourself?
  • How long have you been an MCAT tutor?
  • Have you been able to help students improve their MCAT scores?
  • What is your teaching style?
  • Do you tailor your approach to my learning style?
  • What study materials do you include?
  • Will you provide practice tests to gauge my improvement?
  • What is your availability? Will we meet in person or online?

I highly recommend Yehuda for math tutoring. He has tutored my 13 year old daughter with her 7th grade Accelerated Math since October 2022. We noticed at the beginning of the school year she was struggling in math class. It became apparent she had lost some fundamental math skills and needed help as a result of the COVID school closures and virtual learning. She was getting frustrated and was losing confidence in herself. Her improvement since working with Yehuda has been remarkable. Her math grade has improved from a 60 to an 86. Yehuda didn’t just go over her school work, he identified where her learning gaps were and which concepts she needed help understanding. His instruction taught her not just “how” to do the work, but the “why” for doing it a certain way. He is personable, funny and has done a great job getting her back on track to succeed in math.

I can't recommend Arno enough! I passed both Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 because of his amazing tutoring. When we first started, my understanding of basic chemistry was very limited, Arno spent hoursss patiently teaching me the fundamentals and making sure I was fully prepared for quizzes. He created a comfortable learning environment where I felt at ease asking questions and was always very patient. If you need tutoring, Arno is the one! 1000/10

I have known Felipe since summer 2017, and I have been beyond pleased with the results that he has produced. I have found Felipe to be a very clear communicator with an interest to inform all parties of his plans and the expectations he has of his students.  He is quick to respond to requests and detailed in his explanations.  Felipe is an intuitive instructor and customizes his approach with each student.  He is thoughtful and encouraging in addition to be firm and being clear about what needs to happen.  Another very positive attribute is that Felipe is interested in feedback from students and actively solicits this feedback to improve his teaching skills. Felipe is also eager to receive feedback and constructive criticism. He enjoys the opportunity to brainstorm ways he can tackle more complicated student behaviors.  He is aggressive in his search for how to best serve his students, drive results, and be creative in his methods. Based on Felipe’s work and his results, I would highly recommend his services. He is caring, hardworking and wants what is best for students.

Verna and our son hit it off right away. They literally got to work within two minutes. Our son enjoys learning, and Verna has been a good fit. He has only had two sessions, but felt that both were beneficial and helped him to better grasp this difficult content.

Adeeb helped me a lot with my AP Calculus class. I was struggling with integration a lot and he was able to break it down into a much more understandable concept. He was very easy to schedule a session with and I would definitely use him again if I need a tutor.
