I have my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor's degree in Allied Health Science with a Psychology minor. I am passionate about helping students learn and explore concepts and knowledge regarding the social sciences such as psychology, sociology, social work, and counseling. Social science helped change my life and understanding of myself so I enjoy helping to others to learn about it. My approach to tutoring integrates all of the learning styles (visual, kinesthetic, and auditory.) I am patient and will work together with you diligently to help you excel at your studies. I have been tutoring on and off since I was in high school, and my experience includes working with high school aged students, undergraduate students, and graduate students. I enjoy seeing the relief and feeling of accomplishment that students experience when they grasp a difficult concept and/or when their grades begin to improve. Our current society puts much emphasis on grades and test scores, so I enjoy helping students boost/maintain feelings of esteem when they are able to achieve their desired grades and scores.

I struggled in my sociology class my sophomore year of college because it was a gen ed course and not one of my major classes. I found sociology to be boring. However, Kiara applied the concepts to things happening in my life at that time in a way that made sense to be. I passed the class with a MUCH higher grade than I started with and for that I am grateful!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I meet with a student to get an understanding of their needs and what they consider to be areas for improvement. We then discuss their learning style and take a quick quiz to determine how they best learn. We then work together to accomplish the goals they have for our time together.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling, a bachelors degree in allied health science with a psychology minor, and a certification as a life and relationship coach.
