About
I've been very successful as a teacher, trainer, and tutor. My students have done well and been successful. I am very good at helping people connect with information and skills in a way that they can receive and use.
I still help kids and adults where they struggle with certain content or tasks. But I don't just want to help with the next test or this class.
I've learned that when people are challenged with particular things, academics and ability are very rarely the primary issue. Most roadblocks to learning are relational, emotional, and interpersonal. That means the way we communicate or experiences we've had that shape our reactions to certain content really get in the way. So my goal is help people by focusing on them as individuals and helping them to learn how to be better learners now and in the future, rather that just showing somebody how to do a math problem, teaching the process for writing an essay, running through a process of phonetic reading, analyzing scenarios for supply chain efficiency, or whatever. I want to help people with those things, but the goal is becoming a better learner and growing as a person. I believe that's the right way to invest in people as an educator. I hope you agree, and I look forward to working together.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I do a pre-interview (usually about 15 minutes) the phone, so get a better idea of your needs and to make sure we are a good fit.
The first session will generally be focused on content that the client chooses, but will also be very much about getting to know learning style, aptitudes, challenges, personalities, etc. From that point on, we'll get better and better at working together, so we can keep knocking out the necessary content, but while we do we'll also be working on learning to remove some of the internal barriers and learning strategies for improved lifelong growth and education.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've had some formal training and education in training and education :). But most of what I use in teaching and training is from years of experience training groups and individuals, tutoring, classroom teaching, parenting, developing training programs for organizations, training trainers, and putting great effort into the success of others.
