I teach at the university level. While my education and expertise is in the field of Biology, my teaching style is heavily focused on more that just helping students memorize information. I teach the skills for students to teach themselves and problem solve. Instead of trying to memorize the book, it is important to learn to think through questions. You'd be surprised how many otherwise unknown answers you can deduce with some fundamental background knowledge and strong logical skills.
I really enjoy teaching and learning. It has been a wonderful experience teaching at the university I am at. I know have my sight set on a PhD program there, but that means I won't be teaching in the classroom if I get into it. Because I find helping students excel very rewarding, I figured that tutoring would be a great way to supplement my income while contributing back to the community.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first steps include getting to the know the student's personality and their background. Many times the issue isn't the student's ability, it's their own perception of their ability. Build their confidence and let them flourish. Plus, identifying their interests helps find ways to link the trouble subject to things they like. Then, I learn about their current knowledge and academic thought process. I can then help them add to the fundamental knowledge and cultivate a highly functional & logical way of thinking about the subject.
