About

Hello, please check out my website for general questions such as the cost of tutoring as that is a great place to start, www.readingtutorforme.com. Also, if you are interested in knowing more about my tutoring services, please fill out the form on my website and I can give you a call! I am a licensed teacher with over 20 years of experience. I can increase your child's reading skills by ONE full school year typically within 20 hours of tutoring. I have been able to do this repeatedly with the students I work with. So many of my students have become successful readers and learners in all areas! I teach reading using specific philosophies and strategies (i.e. Orton-Gillingham, Sonday, etc.) that use sequential, systematic, and multi-sensory approaches. I integrate technology into my instruction to make faster progress, make learning more fun, and keep students engaged/focused. To find out more about your child, I will do a free reading assessment to identify where your child's reading struggles are and I will be able to pinpoint what areas he/she struggles in. I'd like to help and thanks for viewing my profile.

One of the best parts of what I do is when I hear from happy parents about the success their children are having at school. Here are a few recent ones I've heard:

1. "He has gotten out of the 'low' reading group."

2. "He is now reading at grade level and not behind."

3. "She longer needs to be in the after-school reading intervention group."

4. "He passed his state reading assessment."

These are just to name a FEW!!

The process to work together is very easy and can start in just FIVE short steps:

    1. Parents contact me with questions and/or to tutor their child.

    2. The parent fills out a New Student Registration Form on my website so I know when the best time to contact them is.

    3. The parent and I talk on the phone to discuss the child's tutoring needs and set up a time for the free reading assessment.

    4. The student and I meet to do the free reading assessment and I talk with the parent afterward to review the results and discuss a tutoring plan.

    5. We begin to tutor and your child becomes a better reader!

I am able to close a one-year reading gap in 20 hours or less of instruction and build a student's confidence as a reader. I also have 19 years of experience as a teacher and hold a Master's Degree in Education. My tutoring sessions are $75.

I offer a free consult with the parents to find out more about the child and his/her needs as well as a free reading assessment to determine the exact areas of reading struggle so I can use this data to get the best results for the child.

I had taught in the public school system for over 18 years. Within that time frame, I was able to fine tune how I instructed students to read and close reading gaps so that students were not behind their peers and they were more confident with their reading skills.

As a private tutor, I love working one-on-one with students and can close reading gaps even quicker than when I worked in the school system. I individualize each lesson to meet your child's specific reading deficits so that he/she can make faster progress and be on grade level with their peers.

I have an extensive background in working with very diverse populations of students with varying reading needs and have helped countless students gain skills and confidence to be competitive with their peers.

I do a free reading assessment to determine what area(s) the child struggles with. I work on increasing reading skills in the specific areas your child needs; it could be in the area of phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and/or fluency. Each student is unique and requires instruction to fit their individual needs.

I recently worked with a student who was behind in reading compared to his peers in the 3rd grade. He struggled in many areas of reading. I was able to pinpoint his reading skill deficits, increase his reading skills/confidence, and close a one-year reading gap with consistent tutoring and practice.

Now, he is no longer at the bottom of his class in reading and is so much more confident at school in all of his subjects!

Here are a few things to ask and/or look for when trying to hire a tutor:

-Does the tutor have experience and can she/he get results? Read their reviews and contact that person. What is their experience with working with their subject matter and getting desired results?

-Does this tutor have actual experience with working with children? Can they connect and relate to what your child is struggling with?

-Can the tutor collect data, quickly adjust instruction, and/or assess students? Many inexperienced tutors may not know how to do these crucial steps to making reading progress with your child.

-Is the tutor flexible? Can they adjust instruction based on your child's current needs?

-Can the tutor communicate with parents? If you ask a specific question relating to your child's tutoring, is the tutor able to give professional advice/answers?

    *

Some questions to think through when considering a tutor would be:

-Can the tutor get expected results?

-Does the tutor initially assess the students and re-assess the students on a regular basis to determine the student's growth, needs, and instruction?
