The Write Stuff Tutoring
About
I am a current English professor with 2 years secondary and 2 years post-secondary instructional experience at Bay Area schools and universities. I have been rated an effective instructor through peer and student evaluations and can help a student of any level improve their writing skills.
While witnessing the "a-ha" moment in a student is always the goal, I also enjoy the smaller moments in between—the pieces that a student can put together later into a big breakthrough.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I find it best to either assess an existing writing sample or have the student complete a diagnostic sample for us to look at together and discuss perceived strengths and opportunities. Beyond that, I prefer to focus on a few key areas at a time rather than trying to solve every problem at once. This has proven to be a more effective strategy for student engagement and the implementation of new techniques.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters in Fine Arts - Fiction and teach at the college level at local universities.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from grade 7 through senior year of college. These students ran the gamut of ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find the tutor who can adapt their skills to your needs rather than running you through a standardized routine they have pre-built.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Consider what resources you have already sought out—peers, parents, internet documents—and what measures you have taken to identify and solve your problems. Come to tutoring sessions with talking points and specific questions so the conversation can be as productive as possible.
