Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Start with examining the exact disconnect between the student and the information. If it's a specific problem I would first find out the extent of the knowledge of the student, explain the general process for completeing that type of problem, and prepare a few examples for the student to practice. If it is a general problem I would assess the topic that needs discussion and prepare a presentation and some sample problems to acclimate the student to this subject.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated High School with a mastery in Mathematics and Science. I am currently completing a Bachelor of Mathematics. I am also in the process of getting myself certified as an NTA tutor.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$25 an hour is my base rate, but it is negotiable depending on the individual.
How did you get started teaching?
I tutored in small amounts throughout High School, and then I took the ASVAB and scored a 99. Once I took the ASVAB my recruiter started sending me people who needed help, and I was happy to oblige.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with mostly High Schoolers up until this point, but I do have experience teaching younger children.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I spent Christmas with my family and I very much enjoyed it. We were in Alabama, the view was amazing and I always enjoy spedning time with family.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would say definitely do your research and ask lots of questions of your tutor. Look at experience and test scores, and definitely add an example problem to see how they would help.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should be able to identify exactly what their needs are, what to expect from their tutors, and, assuming everything goes well, what they would like to have happen at the end of the tutoring.
