About

If you are seeking a highly-qualified specialist with a passion for teaching and empowering struggling readers and/or dyslexic students, I may be a good fit for your child. Aside from having a Master's Degree in Education and Special Education, I was trained at the Massachusetts General Hospital's Reading Disability Clinic in an evidence-based, individualized, multisensory, phonetic-based approach called Orton-Gillingham to systematically and explicitly teach literacy skills to struggling readers and/or dyslexic students. I have taught in the classroom as well as privately for over 30 years utilizing this highly effective approach. I have always had a passion for teaching and empowering struggling readers and/or dyslexic students with the essential skills, strategies, tools and mindset for success. For residents in the state of Florida, please note that I am a Florida Step Up for Students direct-pay provider for the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities.

    Frequently asked questions

I have a complimentary consultation with the parents to listen to their concerns and to learn more about their child. I request and review any formal testing that may have been completed. I spend the first session getting to know my student; I like to ask my students about their interests, strengths and challenges, and I I also do some informal diagnostic testing so I can determine a starting point for instruction. During sessions, I individualize instruction based on my students' needs and interests.

I have a Master's Degree in Education and Special Education. I was a special education teacher in the Brockton, MA Public Schools for over thirty years until I retired in 2019. I was trained at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston in the Program of Education; Therapy for Specific Reading Disability (Orton-Gillingham). I have a certificate for completing a 300-hour Program of Education in Therapeutic Techniques and Supervised Practice conducted at the MGH Language/Reading Clinic. I also completed an 18-hour program in advanced Orton-Gillingham at the MGH Language/Reading Clinic. My professional development is ongoing; I have a passion for learning.

My rate is $75.00 per session. I meet with each student in my office. That charge includes the instruction time for 55-60 minutes and speaking with a parent upon request. That charge also includes my planning time. It is essential for a student who receives Orton-Gillingham instruction to have a minimum of two sessions per week. For Florida residents, I am a direct-pay provider for the Step Up for Students Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities.

By the time I was in the second grade, I knew I wanted to become a teacher.. I've always had a great deal of empathy for struggling students.
I've taught students in grades N-12 as well as adults. My specialty is teaching students who have specific learning disabilities in reading or students with dyslexia.
I recently enjoyed going to a local blueberry festival.
If you are a struggling reader or dyslexic student, I would advise you to hire a teacher who understands how to teach reading based on the science of the reading brain. Your teacher must be highly knowledgeable and experienced in the field of reading disabilities or dyslexia. An experienced teacher of dyslexic students will have an understanding of the skills and perhaps accommodations you need for success. I think it would be ideal for your teacher to have an overall passion for teaching, supporting and empowering her students for academic and lifelong success.
I think students should try to identify their strengths, challenges, interests, favorite ways to learn as well as the outcome(s) they are seeking from having a tutor.
