Sharna-Kaye has been a teacher since 2020, but worked with students since 2018. She has worked with students from kindergarten-8th grade. She employs a personalized approach to tutoring, tailoring her lessons to meet the individual needs and learning styles of her students. She believes in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and take risks in their learning. Sharna-Kaye is passionate about fostering a love for reading and writing, while also helping them develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills across all subjects. Her goal is to instill confidence in her students and provide them with the tools they need to succeed academically.

I was a before and after school teacher for two years and transitioned to an elementary teacher from 2020-2022
How did you get started teaching?
I have always had a passion for helping students grow. I took that passion and first began working with a before and after school program, where I helped students with homework and curated activities. I then transitioned to a tutor during the school day, where I would go to different classes and help students who needed extra help or one one time. From there, I officially became a teacher in 2020. I taught 3rd and 2nd grade.
What types of students have you worked with?
All classes are diverse, I have worked with children with IEPs and 504 plans. I have worked with students who needed focus on social emotional skills. Students who below grade level and students who were above grade level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had a student in my class this year who came in not able to read and by the end of the school year he was at an advanced 1st grade reading level.
