Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Each student is different. Therefore, I do an assessment of the following skills according to their age level: Processing Speed, Working Memory (visual and auditory), Word Attack, Blending/Segmenting Words to see if they can put sounds together and take them apart (essential to reading). For students at higher education levels, focusing on key elements and details (especially for SAT, ACT, and GED), along with visualization, organization, and redesign for short to long term memory.
From this point on, fun learning is the key! Whatever the age of the child, we focus for that amount of time learning. Then take a 1 minute break of stretching and moving. Then back to focus and learning. During the entire session, immediate feedback. If the student is having a hard time, switch to a different activity that will bring positive results. The goal is for each student to become a comfortable, independent learner. Then we are happy! YEAH!
