Tina's Beginning Readers

I have been teaching children to read for 20 years, specializing in the teaching of beginning reading skills. Most of my classroom teaching years have been spent in the Kindergarten classroom, although I have taught 1st grade & 3rd grade, as well. Currently, my work has brought me to train other teachers to help develop their own readers. During my years in the classroom, I found that although some students met expectations for going on to 1st grade from Kindergarten, they just weren't strong enough as readers to sustain in 1st grade. I offer summer tutoring for Kindergarten students with low reading achievement, whether they are moving on to 1st grade or not, in order to give them that extra little boost they need before the next school year. I am certified to teach primary grades & my certification includes a Reading Endorsement. Not only do I have many resources available to help enhance my turoring sessions, I have seen many success stories with my students over the years!

There is just nothing quite like the feeling when you see a student suddenly "get it" & start to read! Some students require just a little more time...& when that light bulb comes on, their faces can light up the whole room! That is exactly why I love what I do...
