Elementary Education Tutor
About
I have been an elementary school teacher for 7 years. I have taught grades ranging from first grade to fourth but have tutored students grades kindergarten through sixth. It is my daily job to identify the needs of students and build interventions to help fill academic gaps and find numerous ways to teach content to find what resonates with each student. I love my job but enjoy the one on one work of tutoring that is often hard to achieve in my classroom.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with a small amount of testing. For a math focus I begin with an AVMR screener and reading a running record to find the students strengths and areas of focus. I then create a plan on what needs are the most important and through activites mixed with current school work, my goal is to strengthen those areas of struggle.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in ESL (English as a Second Language) from the University of Northern Colorado and am currently working on my master in Educational Physchology. I have taught for 7 years and am trained in AVMR, Treasures, Lucy Calkins, Techonolgy practices, collaboration teams and more.
How did you get started teaching?
I have wanted to be a teacher since third grade. It was always the goal and after a lot of hard work, it happened!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students spanning a huge spectrum. I have worked with students who qualify for an IEP or recieve special education services within school to those students who are identified as gifted and talednted and need challenged. I have also worked with students with dyslexia, autism, behavior needs and more. Teaching for 7 years has given me a very diverse background.
