Hello! Welcome to The Learning Lab! My name is Gentry Shannon, and I'm currently a rising sophomore at a college in Virginia. I've been formally tutoring since junior year of high school, when I helped start a tutoring program at my school for struggling middle school students. For the next two years, I tutored 6th-8th graders several days a week after school in math, english, history, and latin. I'm a Colorado College graduate and a current freelance journalist. I studied journalism and political science in school and I'm passionate about writing and English language. I have worked with Elementary and Middle school kids in the past, and I'm confident working with any age on writing, social science, college applications, English, History, and humanities. I am an experienced editor and I love the writing process! I'm patient and fun and will make learning enjoyable for anyone!

Some of my job titles over the years have included "teacher", "tutor", "coach", and "mentor". I think this last one is my favorite because it encompasses the fact that I want you to succeed and can be a useful support system towards that! I've always loved learning and early on that translated into teaching as well. I have two years worth of college level coursework in Education and my degree in Biology and Psychology. I have over 10 years of tutoring experience and have worked with students from pre-K all the way to college. I am passionate about animals and the environment and am currently pursuing my post-bachelors certificate in Zoology!

I have been teaching at the high school level in Colorado since 2016. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught social studies and english classes. Twice I was awarded our schools' MYP Teacher of the Year award. In addition to my teaching career, I also have a Master's Degree in History from the Missouri State University.
