About
I enjoy solving math and computer science problems and love spreading that appreciation to the next generation of problem solvers. Not only did I study math in college but also psychology, philosophy, and computer science, so I have the background to show why math can be applicable to every other area of life. The hope is that this philosophy sparks an appreciation for the fun and impact of learning problem solving, as it did for me.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I believe that learning how to think through and break down problems into small steps is the most important think a person can learn. I'll start teaching this by figuring out what level a student is good at, and then teaching the aspects of mathematics, computers, and programming essential to pushing a student slightly beyond where they are. Then we will use efficient problem solving methods and break a problem down in a way that pushes the students to think further and understand more problems than they could before.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two degrees in mathematics and computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. I'll also begin my PHD in applied mathematics over the next year.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$75 per hour, but I can be flexible according to schedule and needs.
How did you get started teaching?
While at university I found a love of solving problems and have wanted to inspire others since then.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students with disabilities and other college students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Going to Peru for my senior spring break. The hike to Machu Picchu was incredibly fun and the streets of Lima and Cusco were incredibly lively!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think the best advice for students is to follow your intuitions and curiosities. When solving problems you can learn a lot by going off the beaten path by either finding unconventional solutions or figuring out why a technique doesn't work. Because of this I think it's important to get a teacher who genuinely cares about the subject and has that intuition in order to guide a student in the right direction.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student should think about what they want from the teacher, whether that be help in a specific subject, help for a specific test, or to become better at a subject in general. They should also think through the problems at hand before talking to the teacher so that they have the best idea of what they're confused about.
