Hi! My name is Akhil Aggarwal, and I love to teach! It's been one of my passions growing up, but something I never really pursued professionally. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a double major in Finance & Operations and Supply Chain Management, with a minor in Computer Science. I currently work as a business analyst at Capital One. Although I haven't had too much experience tutoring, I have a strong record in test scores, with a 1570 on the SAT (800 Math, 770 Reading) and a 35 on the ACT. I have also worked as a Kumon tutor, and helped tutor while I was in high school. I feel like I want to make this as enjoyable

Many people are good at Statistics,Probability, and coding but few are good at teaching it. You may be experiencing that in a class right now - the teacher knows a lot about the subject, but isn't skilled at conveying that knowledge to you. I pride my self on working hard to empathesize with you, the student, and the challenges and struggles you are having at mastering the materials.I work hard to understand where you are now, where you want to get to, and then I use my experience with dozens of other students to map out a study plan to get you from where you are to where you want to be. Jing W. says, "I learned about Sophie from a friend referral. She has a great perceptive of seeing my son's needs and meeting where he is at. My son has ADHA. She has been working with him once a week on his middle school math assignments and helping him prepare for assessments. She uses creative kinesthetic learning activities to keep my son stay engaged. He always seems to enjoy his sessions because they not only talk about math but also various trendy topics that my son finds interesting. His teacher at school reported that he started participating more in class. I highly recommend Sophie as a tutor. Her dedication to student learning is very much appreciated." Read more

Reviews for Gaithersburg math tutors

Recent success stories from people in the Gaithersburg area.
Arjun J.
Mr. Ghassemi is a very great tutor. In fact, I would say that he is better than my teacher at school. The main reason behind this is because he goes in depth with the lessons and gives numerous practice problems, both MCQ and FRQ for me [student] to understand. He also gives detailed solutions to each one and works with the student had they got it wrong or simply do not understand. When a student simply does not understand, he is extremely patient and listens to their ideas and provides an explanation if their ideas are correct, if they are wrong he makes sure to delve deeper into the concepts that are required for the optimal understanding of that problem. He also makes sure you understand the concptual reasoning behind each question. Mr. Ghassemi is definitely highly qualified in both Maths and Physics. He spends a lot of time on his own apart from the one on one student session to work each problem out before hand and sometimes even provides multiple approaches or solutions regarding how to solve the questions. He helps with both preparing for the AP Exams as well as preparing for unit tests and homework given by the school. I would definitely recommend Mr. Ghassemi to anyone requiring a high quality tutor that gives high quality services!

Sophie has been tutoring my 10 year old daughter math. My daughter was having a hard time paying attention and retaining what she learned in the classroom. Sophie is an observant teacher and very knowledgeable in math. She is personable and my daughter enjoys working with her. Sophie ties her school curriculum with her interest and makes the lessons fun and relatable. I also liked that she has developed her own Canvas content to incorporate in her lessons, which has greatly helped my kid with her testing preparation. With Sophie's help and encouragement, my daughter is gaining confidence in math and in the classroom!

My children were having difficulty in European History. Sam spent four lessons with them and their grades improved. He was generous with his time and remains a close family friend even after my children graduated.
