About
Initial consultation is free. Let's get to know each other first. I tutored young students in South Bend, IN near the Notre Dame campus in college, and like to share my love of aviation. Hey, it got me off campus for an afternoon, but I completely liked helping kids. Now I've earned a BSEE degree, passed a flight test and have a family of my own. I'm a software engineer and private pilot.
I enjoy math puzzles and can make learning fun. We have loads of school books and worksheets to help you.
Math is useful in the air to determine our true altitude or calculate our position. There's even a mechanical computer to work out true ground speed. I was a cadet in the Air Force ROTC and served as Safety Officer in the Civil Air Patrol which lead to teaching CAP cadets about airplane safety. It's a thrill to share a common passion with these future leaders.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Where do you need help? What are your strengths and previous trouble spots. I can offer creative examples of similar problems to help see the questions from other angles.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied engineering which revealed to me how little I knew about "higher" math. The professors wanted us to not only know how to use the equations they taught us, but when to use them. I enjoy writing short stories, and self-publish on Amazon. You can google "john berres amazon" to find them. My main character is a young girl who lost part of her family in a plane crash.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I'm flexible, especially in these times of the pandemic. Let's find a price that works for you. My typical rate is $25 per hour. I offer a free consultation session upfront to get started.
