Thomas The Tutor
About
Unlike most tutors I have been tutoring for years and have extensive experience in all levels of math, science, and test prep. I tutored for kaplan, Varsity tutors, and many other big name test prep services before breaking off on my own. From those companies I’ve gained experience and understanding of what students really need. I have a bachelors in microbiology with an emphasis in pre-medicine. I also have an advanced tutoring verification from the college reading and learning association. If you’d like to find out more go to ThomasTheTutor.com or Facebook.com/itutormke. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My goal with tutoring is to get my students ahead in their classes. Although most students come to me struggling and behind in their classes, I slowly work them to the front. Tutoring is not a quick process that clicks in one night, but rather a few weeks to go from worst to middle of the pack and then to the front within a semester. Let me help you see your full potential.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors in microbiology as well as an advanced tutor certification through the college reading and learning association. Both of which, have provided me extensive exposure in science, math, and test prep and the ability to teach the material in a way that most teachers cannot. On top of this training, I have had test prep training from Kaplan which has provided me increased exposure to test prep.
How did you get started teaching?
I first started teaching in college as a TA, submental instructor, and tutor. From these experiences I have adapted my tutoring technique to best fit the needs of my students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I provide tutoring for all levels of education from grade school through college. I specialize in high school and college chemistry, biology, physics, math, as well as test prep for MCAT, DAT, OAT, ACT/SAT.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Unlike most tutors, I have the training, education, and experience that makes me a well-rounded tutor in the material that I specialize in. I may not be the cheapest, but I’m the best quality out there.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How much experience does your tutor or teacher have? Do they have materials and an adaptable teaching method that fits your needs?
