Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, assess goals and the barriers to achieving those goals. Then don't waste any time getting down to the dirty work. I am someone that focuses on learning why things happen as that helps us remember for a longer period of time and helps us figure out new problems on the fly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin- Madison and taught a number of honors Biology and Chemistry students during my time as a student there. I taught a class on mentoring and teaching during my senior year there. I since have almost completed my medical training and thus have learned a great deal about anatomy, physiology, and many other subjects like biostatistics. I can teach you just about anything and I will tell you what I feel prepared to teach.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Details/pricing is negotiable. Shoot me an offer.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching after I was asked by classmates and teachers to help them understand certain concepts in college. I have always enjoyed teaching and I think I am very good at it. I like to break things down into bite-sized pieces to build a strong fundamental knowledge base.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all sorts of students mostly college and high school students as well as medical students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently mentored a group of 6 medical students to help prepare them for the first board exam of their career and created a number of questions to reason through as a group and all of them did wonderful on the exam.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask how they will help you learn/improve.
