About
My service is completely individualized and tailored to my student's needs. Though the concepts of chemistry and biology are sometimes 100's of years old, new and better teaching methods are continually invented. Because each student has different learning needs, and each course covers slightly different topics, I enjoy working with each person to identify exactly what their learning style is and then coming up with new methods to help my students understand the course material.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I find it so enjoyable and satisfying to help someone understand something and learn something they had not known before, that "light-bulb" moment. Additionally, chemistry and biology courses have a notorious reputation of being overly challenging, and memorization-based. I really enjoy dispelling these notions and showing my students specific methods to help them understand and complete their science courses. Additionally, I really enjoy showcasing how important chemistry and biology is in everyday living - literally everything we do, see and interact with on a daily basis has to do with biology and chemistry.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a new student is to first get to know them as a person and then identify their personal learning goals. From there we develop a plan together on how to achieve their goals. Depending on these goals I will develop additional practice problems, give mini-lectures on topics, or work through homework assignments together. My overall goal is to help each an every student succeed in their course and highlight how the course material is important in everyday living.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over ten years of experience and training, including: (i) teaching my own lecture and laboratory chemistry and biology courses, (ii) designing and running my own online-only virtual chemistry courses, (iii) tutoring students one-on-one for undergraduate biology and chemistry courses, (iv) I've taken many teaching professional development courses and workshops to improve my effectiveness as a teacher, and (v) I have lots of experience tailoring the course content to individual needs so that each of my students can grasp the course material.
