About

I have a strong science and math background because of my B.S. Biochemistry and MSc. Human Osteology and Funerary Archaeology, it helps me connect what students are learning in the classroom to real world examples.

The degrees I have are quit a mouthful, but essentially I'm qualified to exaimine human remains that are decomposed (like in CSI or Forensic Files).

I enjoy working with students and helping them accomplish their goals. It's rewarding to see students doing their best enjoying what they do. I unerstand that math and science can be subjects that are very stressful for people. I hope to bring joy to those subjects for others.

Our daughter really enjoys working with Kelsey. Kelsey explains the work in a way our daughter understands which allows her to do the work on her own. We are very fortunate to have found her!

    Frequently asked questions

It depends on the type of help needed. I always try my best to fit the needs of the student.

Our first session is to get to know each other, find out what the students needs are, and do some work together. At the end of the session if everyone is happy to continue working together we will schedule more sessions. As we continue working together there are some things that do help me to support/guide best:

    - Access to the student's instructions/ directions (before hand if possible)

    - Access to the student's text, homework, or information being learned (before hand if possible)

    - Having the student explain their work to me directly

I taught for 3 years in Montessori schools, and have a certificate in Montessori Adolescent education. I do not have formal teacher education.

I do have a B.S. in Biochemistry and a MSc. in Human Osteology and Funerary Archaeology. My education background and hands-on experience in the field has been an asset to my teaching. Students seem to enjoy the "real world" stories and examples I can provide.

My hourly rate for one student/per lesson is $35.

    - Sessions/lessons are paid in advance or at the completion of a lesson.

    - I accept payment through Venmo.

    - A typical lesson length is 1-2hrs.

    - I can accommodate by the quarter hour if necessary (i.e. 30 min, 45 min, 60 min, 75 min, etc.).

    - If lessons go under/over time I'll charge by the quarter hour and not a full hour.

    - I'd appreciate as much notice in advance for cancelations or changes.

    - If you pre-pay for X number of lessons and wish to stop before hand, I'd be happy to refund the number of lessons not used.

    - The price that you were quoted and paid initially will not change in the future if I increase my fee.

    - If you wish to have more than one student in on a lesson at a time we can discuss how to best accommodate everyone's needs.

I have many educators in my family and have been exposed to the world of education my whole life. Teaching seems to come naturally to me.

I've taught in both a rural and inner-city schools. In my experience students and families are unique, so I try and tailor it to the students needs to the best of my ability.

I've also worked with very academically gifted students, students with 504 plans, and student's with IEPs. All students excel in subjects that they are interested in, my goal is to alleviate some stress so they can enjoy learning again.

During distance learning at the end of the 2020 school year I had a student who had trouble focusing and completing work at home. So we made time during each day to have a working zoom call. To just complete our work together.

It brought a semblance of normalcy to our school work environment. He was able to complete most of his assignments before the end of the year school year, and I got a lot of my own work done because of that time spent together.

Make sure you have a clear idea of what you want out of the time you spend with a teacher and be flexible to how they can help you accomplish those goals.

It's always helpful to have a goal with your teacher, because at the end you know if your time was well spent.

    - What is your goal/Why are you reaching out for help?

    - Do you have access to all the materials to complete the work with your teacher?

    - Do you have an environment that you can work in and hear your teacher?

    - Do you need in person support at the same time? And is that person available to you?

    - Do you feel comfortable asking questions or letting the teacher know when you need help?
