About
I was formally trained as a writing consultant and writing tutor at University of Washington. During my tenure as a UW tutor, I studied several tutoring frameworks and theories. Over the 4+ years, I took what I felt were the best-of-the-best and implemented them into my daily tutoring practices.
In my approach to tutoring, I place a strong emphasis on building foundational skills in academic reading and writing, guiding students to develop critical thinking, and helping them integrate personal analysis and unique prose into their work. I believe that these skills form the backbone of a successful academic journey and empower students to excel not just in individual assignments but across their entire education.
When we work together, the goal will be to equip students with the essential techniques they need to comprehend complex texts, organize their thoughts, and communicate clearly. We can work together to master understanding the basics of structure, language, and clarity. I like to focus on helping students identify key arguments, break down sophisticated concepts, and analyze the structure of strong academic papers. With this solid grounding, students are more prepared to tackle a range of writing assignments with confidence and clarity.
Critical thinking is another cornerstone of my tutoring approach. Beyond simply understanding and summarizing information, I encourage students to learn how to ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and examine texts through a critical lens. We can develop this skill is and create well-rounded, analytical thinkers who can approach any topic with depth. By cultivating this mindset, you can become better equipped to form your own perspectives and back them up with evidence. I enjoy tailored strategies to helps individuals develop this skill and guide them through examples and scenarios that enhance their ability to analyze, critique, and interpret.
I am also passionate about helping students integrate personal analysis and a unique voice into their writing. I believe that academic writing should be a personal endeavor where students feel they can express their individuality while meeting academic standards. By encouraging students to weave personal insights into their work, I help them create essays and projects that stand out for their depth and originality. I work with students to find a balance between academic formality and personal flair, ensuring their writing is both scholarly and reflective of their own voice.
As a tutor, I am dedicated to fostering an environment where the patrons feel supported, challenged, and inspired to grow. My emphasis on foundational academic skills, critical thinking, and personal expression in writing equips students with the tools they need for long-term success and a more meaningful academic experience.
