Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know you and the areas where you struggle. Working together we can make a clear plan to improve your understanding and ultimately improve your grades.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am trained as both a biologist and a teacher. This experience helps me make challenging concepts easier for my students to understand.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing varies depending on your needs, whether it’s homework help, test prep, or independent study, I can build a program to work for you. If you have a friend or two and would like to work together as a group, I offer discounts for small group lessons- this is perfect for friends preparing to take AP Biology or AP Environmental Science tests. Please let me know your needs and we can discuss pricing.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching as an undergraduate teaching assistant and loved working with students in a laboratory setting. Teaching science gives me lots of opportunities to show students difficult concepts with fun laboratory based activities.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from middle school through college. I work with home school students, those who are very serious about getting the best grades, and those who are frustrated with their science classes. If you’re taking a Biology class, I can help you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Decide on some goals - do you want to improve your grades, make doing your homework less frustrating or do you just need a buddy to help coach you as you study for tests. A tutor can be a good choice for helping with any of these needs.
