About

I was a classroom teacher for 10 years, a professional tutor since 2005, and a Learning Therapist since 2013. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in education.

I do an intensive reading program that is showing great results with my students. I let my students take the lead. It’s important to me that they are happy and comfortable with the instruction.

Weve had an amazing experience with Linda. My daughter (2nd grade) really struggled with her handwriting, which made learning and retaining spelling difficult because her focus was on writing the letters.
Linda has made learning fun and my daughter has made tremendous progress in a few short months. Linda has a high bar, and meets my daughter where she is on a given day while demonstrating progress each week. She is so much more confident in her writing and I can see that shes proud of how far shes come. She never complains about having her tutoring nights. We plan to continue to work with Linda to support my daughter in her growth as new challenges arise!
My only regret was not starting sooner. We could have saved a lot of homework and studying tears if we had considered a tutor earlier. Its really the best investment we could have made!

Linda is kind, supportive, engaging, and is easy to communicate with about both academic support as well as the nuts and bolts of scheduling, payment, etc. My daughter had been performing below grade level for 2 years and within 6 months is up to grade level. My daughter looks forward to her time with Linda.

Linda is punctual, friendly and assertive. She has helped my 9yo for the past year with his reading and writing skills. We stared out with school assessment scores well below grade level and are now testing at grade level (sometimes above!) His confidence in reading, writing and spelling has soared!

    Frequently asked questions

In the first session, I do an assessment of the student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning style. I use The Qualitative Reading Inventory. I determine which materials will work best with the student.

In the second session, I bring a few stories at the grade level the assessment indicated. We start with what I think is the best type of story in length and appearance. I change the story when the student is not comfortable with the "look" of the materials. Sometimes students are afraid of reading a story that they think is too long. I give him/her a shorter story at the same grade level.

    I have a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Elementary Education.

I have a K-8 Washington State Elementary Teacher Certification.

My hourly rate is $80/hr. This covers my time and expertise.

I go to my students' homes, but I do not charge for fuel.

My 5th grade teacher said I could be a teacher. That became my goal from then on.
Most of my students have ADHD or high-functioning autism. Many are not diagnosed as such. I have also worked with children whose native language is not English.

Choosing a tutor or a teacher depends on the issue(s) your child is having.

A tutor can be a high school student, college student, or certified teacher. Helping a student with their school homework can be done by the first two. But if the student is not at grade level, more expertise is needed.

A certified teacher who has lots of experience in the schools will know what to do to determine where the issue(s) lies and what to do to get the student to grade level.

The more complex the issue(s) is, it is more likely that a Learning Therapist (Ph.D.) is needed. The level of expertise can understand a doctor's or school's report. The report usually states what the student is having difficulty doing (brain function); however, it doesn't say how to address the issue(s).

As an experienced Certified Teacher, Reading Specialist, and Learning Therapist, I have been highly successful in getting academically diverse students to grade level. Contact me to see how I can help you.
