Emily Harman
About
Hi! My name is Emily, and I am a poet and editor from the Pacific Northwest. I hold a B.A. in English with a Creative Writing Emphasis from the University of Puget Sound and am currently a MFA candidate in Poetry at the University of Montana, where I teach writing and composition.
In both my professional and personal life, I am passionate about environmental access and education, mental health awareness, the importance of community, and the power of words to enact change.
As a student myself, I have grown the most when I have felt understood and supported in my writing process. The most effective teachers I have had are those who are willing to adapt their teaching styles to fit the needs of their classroom, and as a teacher myself I want to emulate this model. My teaching philosophy ultimately rests on this respect for the student. I believe in teaching the way my students want to learn, and facilitating an environment that is conducive to that growth.
