About
I specialize in differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of every learner. With over a decade of experience, I’ve worked with students from preschool to middle school, tailoring lessons to fit individual abilities, learning styles, and strengths.
I create engaging, interactive lessons that make learning fun and accessible. My approach combines visual supports, hands-on activities, and structured routines to help students build confidence and essential skills.
Beyond academics, I focus on study strategies, organization, and self-advocacy, ensuring students gain the tools they need to succeed. My goal is to create a supportive, engaging environment where students thrive.

Good morning, Russell! My name is Matthew Lewis, and I am a professional English tutor teaching English grammar, writing, and reading. Additionally, I am an adjunct professor at Northwest University, and I have more than 10 years of professional teaching and tutoring experience.
I see you live in Puyallup. I live nearby in Bellevue with my wife and two daughters.During the current crisis, all tutoring sessions are facilitated using the Zoom videoconferencing service (free for all students).I charge $55 per hour for two sessions per week (or $65 per hour if one session per week is preferred). Please note that not all tutors are career educators like me, and not all have the same rate. I am aware there are cheaper offering out there. However, I want to assure you my rate is very reasonable for a professional with my education, experience, and credentials. Some of my equally credentialed colleagues at the university charge $90 or more per hour for professional-level tutoring. Also, I received highest honors and several academic awards during my bachelor’s and master’s programs, and I am presently writing my doctoral dissertation on student learning at George Fox University. Each of my students receive a customized learning plan, face-to-face instruction, as well extra support by phone, text, or email throughout each week (“real-time coaching”) without extra charge.
