Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Introducing myself quickly and letting them talk for 3 minutes. For some, it may be guided questions just as I would do with adult learners [Name, role, favorite book, or genre]. It's great for them to express their learning achievements, their interest, and capture an idea of their learning style.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Formerly K-8 Certified, 6 years
8 years credentialed trainer with a healthcare organization
MA Education
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40 hourly or $20 for group and small sessions
How did you get started teaching?
I was a tutor for my younger cousins, and later I became a substitute teacher. Older more mature ladies, often would ask me about a teaching career, yet I talked it away or had thoughts of impossiblity. The suggestions were made many years before I gravitated to the call.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly I've worked with middle school students. l have worked a great deal with elementary 3, 4, and 5th graders. After a day with younger citizens, I would nap. Sixth through 9th are better and the bonus is in small groups with collective abilities, gifts, and levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A EMT was hired and training was required. The professional had already learned the use of software system, and therefore adopted certain workflows and processes for using the electronic record system. In order to help her adopt those of training, she would show her way, I would follow with training module, and the decision was left for her to choose. She adopted the training method which was easier and often best practice.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Parent along with student if older, could find out if the teacher delivers in a style fitting to the way in which the student learns. Is the teacher open to demonstrate or deliver in a different way? Is it fun? Does it involve touching and the use of concrete items? Does it pull in real live situations or experiences. Some personalities are a fit, and others belong with another tutor or learning leader.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Smaller learners will need the help of parents. Have students sought the help of their teachers, and peers before asking the tutor.
