Liam Miner ENGLISH Tutoring
About
I will be a certified English teacher in the summer of 2020, and I have several years of experience supporting middle school, high school, and elementary school learners. I've taught and supported English language learners, general education English students, and Honors English students.
I have worked at Meadowdale Middle School, Brier Terrace Middle School, and briefly at Edmonds-Woodway High School, teaching and supporting students with English and other subjects.
I really love it when a student finally has that "aha" moment and breaks through their challenges. Once student's figure something out, no matter what the subject, they feel better about themselves and their abilities, and that is very rewarding to me.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Because we will be working together online, we will first have a Zoom video call together (parents and student) to assess needs and how I can best provide support and teaching.
This will also help students learn to use Zoom, which is currently a very important video call platform in many school districts.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
2 years of middle school teaching/ teacher assistant work in English Language Arts and English Language Learner classrooms.
Currently completing English teaching certification with Seattle Pacific University.
2 years of elementary school after school/ summer camp program experience leading various activities for students.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Starting at $30 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I first worked with youth at the Boys and Girls Club, then the YMCA, and eventually became a teachers assistant at Brier Terrace Middle School in the Edmonds School District.
After a year of supporting English language learners and other students, I started a teaching certification program/ internship at Meadowdale Middle School, where I have taught or co-taught 5 different periods of English, at a variety of levels.
What types of students have you worked with?
General education English and English Language Learners (extensively), Honors English, special education (minimally).
Middle School (extensive), high school (minimal), and elementary school (extensive).
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
With COVID-19, one of the biggest challenges for students is keeping to a schedule at home. As a student, you need to make sure you stay organized to get your work done.
Also, if you are looking for a tutor, look for someone who has taught or supported students before.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What do you need help with specifically?
2. How can the teacher/ tutor support me in being organized?
3. Do I do best with a few directions or with a lot of 1-1 work (no shame in either situation - its about how well you work!)
