Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Using a differentiated learning method, students will first be asked questions about how they learn best and what they are looking to get out of their sessions. Tutoring is not about dumping information on the student, but rather finding ways to make the information stick.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor of arts in English Literature, graduating with high honors from St. Lawrence University. I am a former instructor of the Duke Talent Identification Program, a summer study session that allows accelerated middle and high school students to dive deep into subjects of interest. My course in Creative Writing was challenging but fun, involving a syllabus rich in classic reading materials, skill tuning, and workshop.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing is $15.00 an hour, no matter the subject. Subsidized rates can be discussed based on need,
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students from all sorts of backgrounds and socioeconomic standings. As an instructor at Duke TIP, students came from states across the nation, and brought their own diverse ways of learning and interacting. Tutoring in the North Country of New York, I've taught students from low-income households with incredible work ethic and potential. I am LGBTQ+ friendly, and will tutor students no matter their race, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
