About
What makes tutoring - and education in general - fun and exciting for me is when students have that "Ah Ha" moment - they get it...and that I had a part in that learning and/or understanding experience/process.
Working with students as I have with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders over the past number of years is witnessing their intellectual growth and the self-confidence they develop. This keeps me "forever young" and excited to help with their achievement.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Working with students for the first time requires sharing with each other who we are, our likes and dislikes, successes and what we could have done better - and then discuss the "why/how." This helps set the stage for honest teaching and learning and expectations for both of us. This includes the willingness to learn from our mistakes. It's the journey along the way that's important.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My college career, my military career, and my teaching career have all contributed to my success as an adult, a son, a brother, a grandson, a husband, a father and grandfather, a friend and an educator. Additionally, life and family experiences have given me the foundation that I'm no different than anyone else who doesn't give up - one must just keep trying and grow with time and experience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Learning is priceless...so I don't mind negotiating.
How did you get started teaching?
My teaching exposure began as a pre-schooler. My father was a high school teacher and coach and swim pool instructor during summers. I loved what he did because he loved what he did. Later he was my high school sports coach and phys. educ. teacher and employer at the pool during summers. He [and my mother] was/were my role models. As they say, I'm a chip off the old block.
What types of students have you worked with?
Exciting types - ones who enjoy learning and hearing story telling that relates to their curriculum!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
While tutoring in a middle school, I met two teachers who had been my students years earlier. And the special young girl who told me that her father had been my student also. Wow!
