I find my tutoring work rewarding because of the ability to focus on one person only, and build relationships and help them in a much more targeted way. As an independent tutor, I find it great to design a curriculum that meets the student's needs, and watch them progress in their level of knowledge for the subject.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is centered around finding out what the student already knows, and where the holes are in their knowledge so I can determine what to focus on. We also speak about the student'sgoals and then figure out the best way to proceed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently working as a Graduate Research Assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University and studying Biomedical Engineering. My undergraduate degree is in Biology from Old Dominion University. I have taken many courses in the sciences, and have experience in tutoring for Anatomy and Physiology and Organic Chemistry .

How did you get started teaching?
I was always an active volunteer in highschool for leadership workshops.I enjoyed working with these students and witnessed how the students would evolve by the end of the workshop.
