Western Branch Tutoring
About
As a degreed Educator, I am well-versed in typical learning styles and disabilities both common and rare. My lessons are tailored to each individual student's needs. I do not use one specific program or curriculum; instead, I use whatever method or program will be of most success for my student. For this reason, I charge $40/hour for students of any age.
I offer military, educator, and first responder discounts as well as discounts for pre-paying for lessons (purchase 3 weeks, get the 4th week free).
I enjoy graduating students out of my lessons after they've met their goals. I also enjoy the flexibility of my work and lack of red tape.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I do not answer messages on tutors.com- it's too expensive! I pay for every message sent. You can reach me at [email protected].
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a public school teacher but prefer the flexible schedule and lower stress of tutoring. I have worked for two schools districts in Virginia and one in Arizona and the Autism Society of North Carolina. I have been a professional tutor since 2012.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
One hour minimum. (No half-hour lessons)
My group rate for private tutoring is $20/student.
I require 24 hours' notice for a cancellation; failure to cancel will result in a No Show fee of $50.
SAT/ACT prep is $40/hr plus $100 for every practice test graded, scored, and analyzed.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching at James Madison University, where I had my first student teaching assignments. There are several teachers in my family.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types and ages.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask about their teaching style and experience, if they have a Philosophy of Education, and what it is. Ask about their privacy policy and how they store records.
I am a low-pressure educator and I believe that basic education should be affordable and available to everyone who wants it. Any information I collect about clients is stored under double lock-and-key (physical or digital) and is never sold or shared with any third party unless specifically requested by the client (such as sending a data set or progress update to a school teacher).
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is it about this that I don't understand?
Why can't I finish this assignment?
I am motivated to finish my work by ___________________. (Ex: earning video game time, being free from homework, etc.) If I do my work, then I can have ___________.
