Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first meeting we will get to know each other, I like to do informal assessments as we go, and see what level your student is and what their interests are. From there, each tutoring session past that will focus more on the material and building confidence in the material, through practice, encouragement and guided skills that help them to succeed on their own.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelors of Science in Intersisciplinary Studies (Elementart Education).
Navy-Damage Controlman
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
First meeting is more of a consult, and will be free, to see if your student and I share the same style, and what they need. From there prices are set as described.
How did you get started teaching?
Since I was young I have taught and tutored. In school, I was the person people wanted to study with because I could make it fun and help them remember important things in new ways.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a very diverse group of students, from 3 years old up to 27 years old, from all over the world!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently with tutoring a 9 year old girl in English. She was so afraid of saying something wrong, or not right. I was able to bring her out of her shell and she is now speaking confidently the words and sentences she has learned and easily conversates with the sentence patterns she learned many lessons ago.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that fits your style of learning. Maybe you want someone who is strict, no messing around. Maybe you enjoy thinking outside of the box so a fun teacher would be for you. There is a teaching style for everyone and once you find that, you will suceed.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is your end goal? Do you just want to pass this test? Write this paper? Do you want to learn the skills for next time and future use.
