Esther Chen Gifted English Teacher
About
I am a 6th grade English teacher. This year, I taught English on the Talented and Gifted program at the middle school where I work.
I graduated College of William and Mary with a BA in English literature and a MAEd in secondary education with a concentration in English. I am a Phi Beta Kappa, which is the oldest honor society in the US. I've tutored second through eleventh grade students at Huntington Learning Center, been a ghost writer for Forbes, and worked as a teaching assistant at Choate Rosemary Hall.
I can help with reading comprehension and analysis, as well as writing and editing.
I enjoy working with students, meeting them at the level they're at and helping them unlock their true potential.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first want the student to identify what problem he or she is having, and try to come up with at least one solution by his or herself. Then, we will go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from the College of William and Mary with a BA in English literature and a MAEd in secondary education.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students. The students I worked with at Huntington Learning Center were ones who were struggling in or failing their general classrooms. I have also worked at Choate Rosemary Hall's summer sessions, which focused on enrichment. I have taught Sunday School for kindergarten to second grade, and I have worked with high school students taking exam prep. In addition, I have worked with college students in editing graduate school applications or essays for various courses.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Trust your instinct. Go with someone with whom you feel safe.
