KFolger Math Tutor
About
I am a veteran teacher of over 40 yrs. I still teach part- time at the local community college, having taught high school math for 35 yrs.
My favorite subject to teach is Algebra 2.
I have a great reputation with students of all ages. I still love teaching math!
I love to see the " light go on" with my students when they realize they can do math! Too many feel defeated from past experiences but come to realize they can do and understand math!
I always enjoy seeing success in a student. When "the light goes on" and he/she realizes they can do math is a great experience!
And- I have always enjoyed math and still do!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to feel them out on basics to see where I need to start. If they are currently enrolled in a course, I often ask them to bring their most recent test so I can go over it with them.
From there we work on current material- what's being covered in class and/or what they will be tested on next.
I also try to "back track" on any perceived weaknesses and build a more solid foundation.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.S. Mathematics and 42 years of successful teaching! I have taught very young students as well as senior citizens as old as 70!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. When I was in middle school and high school I even tutored neighbors' children.
I completed my BS degree in 3 yrs so I could start teaching ASAP!
What types of students have you worked with?
Very young, senior citizens, of very weak backgrounds, gifted, average. Etc
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I helped a man who was in his 60's complete his math requirements so he could earn his bachelors degree. He was the only member of his family who didn't have a college degree. He completed it for the sake of getting that degree and proving that he could.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
I would say look for a tutor who not only knows the content of the subject but also can relate the material in an understanding way. Look for a " people person"- not just a nerd who knows it and can't relate to people. Ask others for recommendations!
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
You need to explain what your goals are and what you expect from the tutor. It is never a "quick fix!"
Are you willing to put time into this?
Will you give it your all?
