Accio Academics

Accio Academics was founded in 2011 with an exuberant love of literature, learning, and all things Harry Potter (hence the name). I have been an avid bookworm my whole life and this has carried me through UC Berkeley where I graduated with honors in English Literature and Religious Studies (Double Majoring) and then through Oxford University in England where I earned a Masters Degree in Indian Relgions and Languages. While at UC Berkeley I began tutoring in English through the Berkeley Women's Writing Group and from there I was hooked. I love working with others to help them achieve their academic dreams.

I bring inspired teaching methods, passion, and curiosity to the adventure of academics. Every student has unique talents and interests that can help them succeed. I am deeply committed to discovering those strengths and helping each student to realize their potential.

I specialize in tailoring academic packages that complement different learning styles and a variety of ages and levels. Some of my experience is in teaching elementary school age children, both as a teacher at a private school and as a private tutor working individually with them. In addition, I have two young academics of my own (age 3 and 6). The bulk of my professional tutoring experience has been with high school and college age students. After graduating from Oxford, I taught Religious Studies courses at a communicty college for several years before beginning to focus on private tutoring. My areas of expertise include English Language and Literature, Creative Writing, Essay Writing, Humanities, Philosophy, and Religious Studies with a focus on Eastern Religions.

I offer Private Tutoring Sessions that can be tailored to fit the needs of elementary school students up through the college years—I have experience working with students at almost all stages of their academic careers.

I also offer Academic Coaching services that bring together all the tools a student may need to succeed. From study schedules and text reminders to paper editing and exam review. These packages are geared towards high school and college age students and are fully customizable.

I absolutely love watching students overcome challenges and gaining confidence. I've seen some of my students who started out earning C's and D's in their courses at the University of Virginia transition to earning A's and B+'s. Seeing these students realize their own potential and get excited about academicshas been absolutely awe inspiring.
