About

As a PhD Candidate in History at the University of Oxford, I have extensive experience with academic writing and literary analysis. I have also been a writing tutor since 2015, helping students improve their coursework, as well as their applications for undergraduate and graduate programs, scholarships, and employment opportunities.

Note: I do not work with children under the age of 11.

I appreciate the challenge of coming up with creative solutions that work for each student’s individual needs, and I particularly enjoy using humor to establish a rapport. I have extensive experience with students with executive functioning difficulties and learning differences, including students with IEPs and 504s.

Emily is such a wonderful tutor in many aspects. She is very knowledgeable, flexible, and professional. I have had several big projects with close deadline and Emily always helped me making those perfect. My writing also improved so much after each sessions. I love how she is so understanding and patient. I highly recommend Emily for writing needs and suggestions!

Frequently asked questions

I like to discuss a student's goals, assess their previous writing skills and development, and help them achieve greater confidence and independent critical thinking throughout the writing and analytical process.

I graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in English and European History (Magna cum Laude) in 2015, from the University of Oxford (with Distinction) with an M.St. in British and European History in 2016, and I am a current DPhil Candidate in History at the University of Oxford. In addition to my studies, I have received departmental teaching training through the Preparation for Learning and Teaching at Oxford program and have earned the Developing Learning and Teaching certification from Oxford's Research Centre in the Humanities. I used this training as an assistant teacher for an undergraduate seminar on the Wars of the Roses.

I typically charge $70-75 per hour, depending on whether virtual or in-person and the subject.

I began tutoring students online in the summer of 2015. I continued tutoring both in person and online throughout my graduate studies.

I have worked with students ranging from middle school to PhD, many of whom were non-native English speakers.

What do you want to accomplish through tutoring? What aspects of your writing and studies make you most confident, and what areas need the most work?
