Mrs. Canada Biology Tutoring
About
I am a retired biology professional With a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Virginia, did a postdoctoral at Yale University and continued research at The University of Chicago. I have taught throughout this period, including general biology, cell biology and medical school.
When I retired I wanted to continue teaching the subject I love. So I started tutoring (now for seven years) the subject in my neighborhood and in several schools in the northern D.C. metropolitan area including:
Connelly School of the Holy Child, Georgetown Visitation, Gonzaga, St. John’s College High School, Landon, The Potomac School, Walt Whitman, Langley High, Bethesda Chevy Chase
The results have been great---two of my students decided to major in biology!!! Parents and students express gratitude for my work.
Biology is a difficult subject and I tutor it in a way that facilitates understanding it and makes it enjoyable.
I use the same text that the student's course is using and direct our sessions based on exactly what is being covered in their class and homework.
It is important to realize that biology is a subject that builds on itself, meaning that what is being covered in the beginning, and all along, will be used later. So start as early as you can with a tutor.
I remain aware that the students always have other courses, other tests (sometimes unexpectedly) and extracurricular events they participate in. I stay as flexible as I can with each student.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I use the same text as they are using and prepare for exactly the topic they are on in advance.
We establish a schedule, but I try to be flexible for them if my schedule allows. We work extra as needed.
I prefer a casual and relaxed session where the student is comfortable to participate and develop a good personal relationship. I aim to work with the student based on their learning abilities and attitudes.
Our process develops as i learn and understand the student better and i work hard to address this very important aspect.
