Hi! I’m Anaïs, a passionate Spanish and math tutor with five years of tutoring experience under my belt. I’ve received 9 parent referrals and pride myself on creating a supportive and engaging environment for students. I love those “lightbulb” moments when everything clicks for my students! My approach is to provide personalized, one-on-one support and tailor learning materials to meet each student’s specific needs. Every session starts with creating a SMART goal to ensure that we’re aligned with the student’s and parent’s goals. I believe that when students are struggling, it is not their fault but rather evidence that they are not getting the resources and support they need. I love being part of shaping their academic journeys.

Currently, I'm pursuing a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, the #2 social work school in the nation. My long-term goal is to work with immigrants, leveraging my Spanish fluency, while continuing my passion for teaching through tutoring.

Although I am now a graduate student, my tutoring journey began back in high school when I started working as a math and test prep tutor. I graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, then the #1 public high school in the nation. I graduated with a perfect 4.00 GPA and was a National Merit Scholarship finalist. I also scored 1590/1600 on the SAT, placing me in the 99th percentile.

In undergrad, I graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis with a perfect 4.00 GPA, majoring in Psychological & Brain Sciences and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, and minoring in Spanish. My fluency in Spanish grew through a fully immersive study abroad program in Santiago, Chile.

I am 9 years old and I like Anais because she is really nice. She asks me each week about what I learned in math so that she can help me get better at it. With her, I learned a lot more about fractions and my teacher said that I was ahead of the game because we did not learn that in class yet. After class, I love showing her hobbies. I get time to learn and to have fun. She is super cool and chill about almost everything.

I was really struggling with Algebra. I didnt feel confident taking any of my tests or doing my homework and class was moving too fast for me to keep up. I typically get to know the student before getting to work--I like to understand their interests, how they best focus, and how engaged they have been with their school work. Then, I work through content with the student step-by-step, guiding them while challenging them not to rely solely on my support. I use a mix of worksheets, class content, online activities, and practice tests depending on the needs of the student.

My pricing system depends on the age, educational needs, and session length of the student. I typically charge $40 per hour for middle school students and $45 per hour for high school students. I am happy to negotiate prices to accommodate the needs of individual families.
After I was nominated for a writing tutoring program by my 10th grade English teacher, I became heavily involved in tutoring. I also got the opportunity to volunteer at an educational summer camp in San Jose, Costa Rica over the summer, where I taught young children math and English. During my senior year of high school, I decided I wanted to explore my passion for tutoring through a freelance business, so I started offering more widespread tutoring sessions in math, Spanish, and SAT test prep. I have continued my work as a freelance tutor throughout college and now grad school. I love working with students and hope to continue doing this work for a long time!
I have worked with elementary, middle, and high school students ages 6-17. This includes students who are quite behind in school, seeking support to get onto the same level as their peers, and very high-performing students seeking further academic enrichment.
A beloved student I have tutored for the past three years told me that when she went to Peru, she was able to use her Spanish skills to speak to the locals! She was able to get over her initial anxiety to communicate, and met many people that she otherwise would not have been able to speak to. It warmed my heart to see that her efforts have broadened the opportunities available to her.
