AP Biology/Chemistry Tutoring
About
We do science for two reasons: to solve problems and to satisfy our curiosity. When I tutor I always focus on these tow goals. And it not only makes studying science more fun but also engrains that information in a way that rereading notes or highlighting textbooks can't match.
If you're struggling with science, we'll start by narrowing down what concepts you’ve yet to master. Then we’ll go over the material together, asking why it’s important and making connections to other related topics. Then we’ll go through review questions, at the end of the session and a week or two later if needed, so you can see how much better you understand and retain the material we reviewed together.
I love learning about science! I spend a lot of my free time watching documentaries and learning about the scientists behind famous scientific discoveries. I took every opportunity to work in research labs, botanical gardens, parks, and summer camps so I could immerse myself in the natural world. But nothing tops being able to share my love of science with someone else. That's what drew me to tutoring.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During a first tutoring session the main goals will be to get to know each other and determine the plan to meet your tutoring goals. We'll discuss what you want to get out of tutoring, where you need to improve, I'll get a feel for your learning style, and we'll plan out a tutoring schedule to cover all the topics you want to master.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.S. Biology at Florida Gulf Coast University
Conservation Researcher at Naples Botanical Garden
TA teaching Cell Biology Lab at University of Maryland
Junior Ranger at Pohick Bay Regional Park
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$30/hr
Each tutoring session is usually 1 hour long.
What types of students have you worked with?
I usually work with high school and college students but I do have a little experience with elementary students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You may need a tutor if 1) you’re not doing as well in class as you’d like and 2) you’ve already tried to get help using the resources provided at school. Teachers are busy and can’t always provide the attention that a student needs. But a tutor can give one-on-one instruction that can fill in the gaps.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Before we meet you should think through the following questions:
What are your goals for our tutoring sessions?
What do you struggle with the most in this class and how do you want to improve?
How do you study/prep for a test?
And what are your long-term academic goals?
