SJ Chemistry Tutoring
About
Hello! My name is Stephanie and I graduated from the University of Utah. I have been teaching and tutoring for six years. I have taught preschoolers and tutored up through college age. My favorite subject to teach for any age group is chemistry. I have experience as an eighth grade homeschool science teacher. I have tutored several AP Chemistry students as well, helping them to grasp difficult topics so they can excel on the AP exam. I have also tutored many college students in General Chemistry courses with great success. Some individuals improved entire letter grades. I am eager to work with you.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student I first get to know what they know and what they do not know. There is no point in wasting time teaching them things they already understand. I then assess their learning style. Some students are more auditory, some more visual, some more tactile, etc. Every individual learns slightly differently so teaching in a homogenous way is not beneficial for anyone. Throughout all of this, I also try to get to know a little bit about the student’s interests. If you can refer to things the student is familiar with and apply their interests to the coursework, the information sticks more. For example, I used references from Star Wars to explain the concept of electron shielding to a student who frequently misunderstood the concept. Since then, she has never forgotten what electron shielding is.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken extensive coursework in chemistry in highschool and in college.
How did you get started teaching?
My first teaching experience was when I was a sophomore in high school when I became a peer tutor for a special education class. I have not stopped teaching since. I have continued assisting in special education classrooms, teaching in a preschool, homeschooling my cousin, and tutoring every chance I get.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all backgrounds. I have taught all different age groups from numerous backgrounds. I have vast experience and training with teaching special needs. I have taught different cultures and in different countries. I have taught in both Ecuador and Madagascar. If there is a student, I am willing to teach.
