Experienced Science Teacher Available For Tutoring
About
I am a certified and experienced science teacher with flexible hours during the winter months due to my current teaching position. With over 7 years of teaching experience in classes ranging from AP Biology to Chemistry, I have always had a drive to help students reach their highest potential.
With a B.S. in Biology and a Master’s degree in Science Education, I have a strong understanding of life science content, but more importantly, a deep understanding of the steps necessary for a lasting and robust science education. I am willing to tutor all levels of Biology and Chemistry courses, along with ACT science prep. I have notable success in AP Biology, where I've had a 100% student pass rate over the last two years.
I am available for in-person or online sessions and am willing to travel. $30/hr
Please do not hesitate to reach out for more information. I look forward to setting up a session that meets your unique science needs.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The most important aspect of working with a new student is establishing rapport. I want my student to feel comfortable and encouraged while working with me. If a course syllabus or sequence is available, I ask to look over that in order to work with the student on clear learning goals. From there, we set up a schedule that works best for the student, either regularly or as-needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.S. degree in Biology and a M.A.T. degree in Science Education. I am a licensed educator and have been teaching full time for the past 7 years at the high school level.
I have been tutoring since 2014 with students in AP Biology, Chemistry, Biology, and Middle School Science.
I have also facilitated two conservation biology student trips. The first being to Honduras and the most recent being to South Africa through the organization Operation Wallacea.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always had a love for the natural world. When choosing my degree, Biology was a perfect fit. However, I was not entirely sure where I wanted to go with this degree. After finding myself leading student outreach programs through my university's honors program and the Program for Women in Science and Engineering, I could no longer deny that teaching was the path for me. After completing my undergradate degree, I immediately began a Master's program in science education. Since then, I have been teaching for 7 years. I have served as a department head and science coordinator, travelled to two different countries with students on science conservation trips, and was selected for a teaching grant that sent me to Central Asia for a summer. I love teaching and embrace all the enriching and exciting opportunities that come along with this career.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all abilities. As a licensed teacher, I have taught AP, honors, general, SPED, and ESL science courses.
I have also tutored an array of diverse students of all abilities.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Although it is important for a student to find a teacher with the content knowledge on the subject, they must also find a teacher with an understanding of how to teach the subject. It is a science to know your content, but it is an art to teach it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I would hope students wouldn't need to think through the questions they are going to ask- because for many students, it can be intimidating to ask any question. I think the best thing a student can do is get comfortable asking any and all questions, knowing that they are working with a professional who will answer those questions and guide the student toward success.
