Math And Earth Science Tutoring
About
I understand that every student requires a different method of learning. I attempt to go above and beyond to discover the method that works for them. Whether that be images/diagrams, real-world examples and analogies, videos, etc. I want to figure out how to meet their academic goals in a way that is most comfortable for them. This takes patience and a lot of passion for helping others.
I have also spent two years working as a Supplemental Instruction (SI) leader at my university. SI is a collaborative learning session where I work with all kinds of students to help them retain information and prepare for quizzes and exams. I have worked with different professors and students that have very different teaching and learning styles. I feel that I can adapt to the different styles and help the students in what they need.
I enjoy helping others reach their goal. Every student's goal is different than the next. I love seeing their face when they finally understand a question and sharing the feeling they get when they realize their true potential and reach their goals.
I also love interacting with all different kinds of students, no matter what level they are at. I love helping them feel confident in themselves and their academic capabilities!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I try to understand their learning method. In the past, I've had students take a quiz if they don't know this about themselves. Learning methods can be visual, verbal, kinesthetic, etc. or a combination of both.
I also try to understand what their strengths are so that we can work with what they are good at and confident in. I then establish a reasonable goal. Whether it be understanding a particular concept, increasing their grade, etc. I try to plan out how we can get to their goal and work together on it.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Environmental Geoscience from Texas A&M University. I have taken up to calculus II, and feel confident in my tutoring skills up to Pre-calculus and calculus I. I have also taken several earth science and geography classes that have deepened my understanding of geographic processes.
Lastly, I have worked for 2 years as a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader for a Planet Earth class. This is a collaborative tutoring session where we use different methods of learning and review material as a team.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I typically ask for $20/hour but it is negotiable!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have only worked with college students, but am open for opportunities to work with different students!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask them questions about ANY concerns you have! Know your strengths and weaknesses, learning methods, concerns you've had about your class/past tutoring and how they would handle those situations. This gives you an opportunity to understand how they would react in different situations and you get to know their teaching style.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
- What is your preferred learning method?
- What are your academic strengths and weaknesses?
- What is your academic goal and what is YOUR plan to reach this goal? How can a tutor help you with this?
