About
Hello! My rate is $50/hour. I am a certified Texas teacher with over 20 years of experience in K-12 and college level education. My passion is helping others achieve their dreams by way of advancing literacy and teacher preparation, and my goal is to build confidence, skill, and hope in all of my students through expert instruction and meaningful relationships. I earned my Masters of Education in early literacy instruction and am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach, with an OGA certification practicum in progress.
After spending half of my career working with struggling readers using traditional classroom teaching methods, I decided to dedicate myself to learning everything I could about evidence-based, explicit methods for teaching and learning reading. This led to my present-day work as a literacy interventionist and dyslexia tutor. With the core value that literacy skills are a basic human right, I am constantly learning how to best support students of all ages on their path to becoming proficient readers.
My work with young learners focuses on reading and reading disabilities. I am a certified reading specialist and structured literacy interventionist at the K-8 level, both in my work as a classroom teacher and as a private reading tutor.
Over the years, I have assisted parents in special education advocacy and worked as a consultant to school districts providing supplemental services including behavior intervention and professional development. My certifications include early childhood through grade 8 Generalist, Reading Specialist, English as a Second Language, and EC-12 Special Education, as well as the TEA approved dyslexia intervention program Reading by Design. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham through the OGA Associate Level, Wilson Reading System, Neuhaus, and LETRS.
