Finally Fair Learning Solutions
About
I am a former Elementary Ed teacher with NEISD, where I taught Kindergarten and first grade for over a decade. When my daughter was in third grade she was diagnosed with dyslexia and I decided to tutor her myself. The traditional teaching styles do not address the needs of a dyslexic student. She graduated this year, 2020 with honors. I have a passion for helping struggling readers like her learn to read by way of a multi-sensory approach called the Orton-Gillingham method. I am trained in both OG and the Slingerland approach as well. My tutoring sessions are completely hands-on, incorporating the visual, auditory and kinesthetic senses. Please visit my website for more details and let's see if my teaching methods fit your needs. Thank you for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I give hope to readers who are discouraged and have been unable to be successful in the classroom. I provide encouragement and love to see the twinkle back in their eyes when they start realizing they can read just like everyone else.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have a welcome packet answering a few questions you might have, but my website is an excellent place to learn more about me and the approach I use to help struggling readers reach their potential. We can speak on the phone and then set up a meeting. If we agree to go forward and work together then I assess the student and make an individual remediation/ intervention plan for each person.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I taught in NEISD for over ten years. I have a degree in Elementary Ed with a minor in Early Childhood and was a Kindergarten and first grade teacher. I have been trained in both the Slingerland and Orton-Gillingham method of reading remediation. I am constantly attending seminars, listening to webinars, reading and learning from the best educators the way to help learners who use different pathways of their brain.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $45 per session. It is usually a 50+ min session and we work up to the very last minute.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always wanted to teach. In high school I worked at a day care with after school kids, then I went straight to college, where I graduated early. I got a job even before I graduated and have been teaching ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
Young learners in Kindergarten and first grade all the way through high schoolers and of course my daughter in middle school and high school.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Please be sure it is a method that has been proven successful at retraining the brain to learn to read. Traditional teaching methods do not use multi-sensory methods, nor do they give the students long enough to process and practice the skills taught. No need to continue to try methods that haven't worked.
