About

My name is Sarah and I am a 21-year-old student at Texas A&M University San Antonio in my final semester of courses needed to receive my bachelor's in biology with a minor in chemistry. I will be graduating with honors and on the Dean's list this December. In 2020, graduated with high honors from Northside Health Careers Highschool with a STEM endorsement.

In addition to my course work, I do research in a lab studying vector biology and am an officer for my university's chemistry club.

I currently work at Churchill High School as a tutor for the AVID program and am entering my third year in this position. Prior to working at CHS, I was a private tutor for a homeschooled individual where I was responsible for creating and executing lessons for over a year. From my experience, I am comfortable tutoring both high school and college students in a one-on-one or small group setting. I think one of the best ways to master chemistry is to practice, practice, practice so I encourage my students to work through example problems whenever relevant, first using notes and myself as a guide to get the answer then again independently. Each lesson will ideally begin by reviewing previous topics to check for understanding and retention before moving on to new topics. We will start the new topic seeing what they already know so I can fill in the missing pieces and clarify what they don't understand. Finally, we will do an activity or work problems with the time we have left.
