Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin my first few sessions with working through practice problems from each section w individual students to gage where their strengths/weaknessss lie. Next, I teach general skills for taking the SAT and providing tips as we move along throughout the process of taking the test. Then, we focus on the specific section I think the student needs extra help with. For example, if the student is particularly weak in math, we will spend the majority of a session working through that while adding reading, writing, and vocabulary near the end. For the final few sessions, we will practice, practice, practice! The best way to prepare for the SAT is to take practice tests and become as familiar as possible with it as a whole. Remember, the SAT does not test intelligence. There really is no studying for it. It only tests how well one can take the SAT. Schools are becoming less reliant on SAT/ACT scores when considering students for admission. However, it is still a component of college application processes so I am here to help you do the best you can do!
