About

Does your student feel frustrated learning new concepts? Do they have a problem focusing on assignments? Does it just not make sense? I introduce new concepts with creative ideas that work just for you.

I have taught all ages and recognize every student has their own learning process. We will find it together!

I am a retired university instructor and middle school teacher. I have been privately tutoring for over nine years.

I have experience with ADHD and other SPED learning situations. I have a M.A., M.Div., and M.A.E. I am a mother of four and grandmother of eight.

Learning should be an adventure, not frustrating.

I often struggled as a student and my experience helps me relate to my students.

My favorite thing about teaching is seeing a student’s eyes light up when they 'get it'. I want students to be successful and confident.

Mrs Hand does a great job communicating and making sure they understand. She is patient and committed to her students. She provides handouts that further help understanding new concepts and formulas. A student can text her anytime with questions and she gets back to them quickly. Very helpful!

Frequently asked questions

Since we are in this together, I want learn about the student; not just what they like or dislike about the work. We will discuss their goals and how to achieve them.

I include the text from their school and choose from the resources I have found that work well. This includes worksheets, puzzles and games and more that are specific to the subject or task. I also create individual handouts for the students to keep and refer to when needed.

The session is designed for your child’s best learning opportunity; not the same for everyone.

I am a retired teacher and have been tutoring elementary and middle school for over eight years

I also work with high school and college students.

I have a dual BAs and multiple Masters Degrees; one is a Masters in Education.

I have worked with students with learning disabilities, such as ADHD and forms of Dyslexia.

I charge $35 per hour. Sometimes we aren’t done in 60 minutes…if we go over I do not charge extra. My students can call or text me if they have a question between tutoring sessions (no charge).

Learning was exciting for me as a child, however too often it was frustrating and at times I struggled. I found I did my best with my teachers that were patient and passionate about teaching and I try to imitate their examples. I want students to look forward to learning and accomplishing something new. They can’t do that if they are lost in the lesson or embarrassed in class. I give them the tools to improve and achieve!

Your child, your student. No matter the reason for their struggle. I also have extensive experience working with ADHD, dyslexia, focusing, and memory issues.
After working with a 7th grade student who had been failing math, for about four months, she came in all smiles. She had improved so much I assumed she had received another A on a test. It was better. Her teacher ask her mom if she would be interested in taking Honors Math next year!! Wow.
Make sure they are patient but firm, confident in helping you improve and offer a variety of teaching styles and resources.
