About

Hello! My name is Travis Allen and I am a student at the University of Texas A&M San Antonio. I'm studying to get a Bachelors in Arts with a major in History with a concentration on Social Studies(HIST Majors). I am also currently studying to get my teachers certification, so that I may be a history teacher after I graduate!

I also have completed an Associate's degree for Science from Palo Alto College.

I have had a huge passion for studying history my whole life, and want to be able to turn that passion into a career for myself. I am constantly learning more and more from history everyday and never stop seeking to learn more from all corners of the world. I can promise that I will bring much enthusiasm to teaching others from all ages about history.

I have much experience in working with students and athletes from my past of coaching in youth basketball leagues. I also have a history of being a stage manager for talent shows and beauty pageants.

When it comes to experience teaching I have already had experience writing lesson plans and teaching in front of public school students from my time studying to become a teacher. I also have a history of tutoring fellow students and children in various subjects.

My main interest and expertise is in History of all kinds. From Texas History, American History, and World History I can teach from all parts of the world with South American and African being my biggest weaknesses. Though with preparation I can tutor these. I can do other social studies classes as well, it’s just that history is my best field to teach.

If you’re looking for someone with a lot of passion and love for history and to share and teach others about this, I think I can be someone to help you with that!

Everything! But to specify I just love helping others learn. Learning is something we all do everyday for our whole lives, and being someone who helps others learn sounds like something that will keep me satisfied my whole life. The thought of being such a great teacher that my students will think fondly of their times taking lessons from me sounds like a dream come true that is worth more than any money I will get.

Though when it comes to history it's even more than that to me. I have such a love for learning, and no matter what it is I find studying history to be one of the most fulfilling things about life. To me history just makes me love humanity so much, to see how we have preserved over so many hardships and overcoming our biggest flaws as humans and learning to better ourselves is the most inspiring thing to me about history. It makes life worth living to be able to play even a small part in the amazing history of mankind. I don't expect every student to feel as passionate as I do about history, but I hope to at least convey the meaning of the past to students and hope that they can learn something to better themselves from the past.

Frequently asked questions

I try to identify some common ground between me and the student. I'll spend some time with the student to get to know them and what their interests are to hopefully find some things that we both like to work off of. I think building a friendly relationship with a student when it's one on one is very important since that is something you're allowed to do in a tutoring session, and I think it helps for students to trust me to voice their opinions if they don't understand something or want to ask questions on things that have them curious.

I have taken many classes on history and social studies from my time in University and College. I also have taken many teaching classes in my pursuit of my teachers certification, and teaching in classrooms while pursuing my teachers certification.

As being a newcomer for being a professional tutor, and only being able to work part time. I'm willing to work with clients on pricing and nothing is too high or too low, it just depends on the circumstances. I'm mostly looking to get experience teaching and just some money to cover travel and time. Though if I were to just have a standard price to work off of, I would say $20 dollars per hour is what I would value my standard.

I got started with teaching actually from coaching when I was in high school. I coached youth basketball leagues, and helped some younger students one on one to help them with their fundamentals and such. It was all for free and fun, but a lot of people complimented me for my patience and passion so that stuck with me and is something I hope to always bring with me everyday I teach!

Well I've worked with students of all ages. Though I have a lot more experience teaching middle school and younger from my coaching days. I want to teach High School level students. I've tutored high school students and college students to help them understand materials, for free of course and just to help out friends and classmates who needed help.

SpaceX launched the first Astronauts from American Soil since 2011, and also launched their first manned mission on May 30th 2020. As I write this they are about to come back home to Earth as they return from their mission in space. They are set to return August 2nd. This was an amazing thing to happen in 2020 as I see humanity's future will be in space. So the fact that the private sector is now getting to the point of being able to send trained astronauts to space as a major step forward, and could mark a whole new beginning of a space race between private companies. So I’ll keep my eyes on what the future holds for us in space.

Well I would say that finding a history teacher that can connect with you and help you connect with the history they are tutoring you in. Anybody can buy a history book and read the material, and anybody can just talk at you for hours about that material.

To me, history is not about just knowing facts. It doesn't really matter to just know facts about history. A history teacher to me needs to help you understand why it is that it's worth studying these things from the past. We learn about the past, and teach others about this not just so that it won't be forgotten. If that was the case only scholars would study history, and everyone else wouldn't need to bother. We teach it so that our students can understand the meaning of the past. We all can learn from our predecessors, and watch their struggles and apply those things to us. History is about humanity, and those values are still so important to this day. Regardless if it's from the beginning of civilization, or yesterday.

So I think finding a teacher that cares not so much about stressing about the details of the materials, but about helping their students connect to the past. Because that is how history will benefit everyone to better themselves.

Well first off I would say that never be afraid to ask questions. There really isnt any stupid questions. Every student has different ways of understand material told to them, so sometimes even if the question may seem a weird way of wording it you should ask it anyways. That way your teacher can help you develop your thoughts in a way that make sense for you and you can discuss it together. If a teacher berates you for asking a question, then that isn't right.

Though for questions you should ask. I think students should be asking questions that help them understand what their teachers are asking, or if they are having a hard time keeping up with the material that is being taught. If a student feels like they are falling behind in, say a lecture, it could negatively affect them on the future material that may come up. So be sure to ask questions.

Another thing is don't be afraid to ask questions on sudden curiosites that may come up for you. Even if it may seem off topic, those kinds of questions could be some of the stuff that sticks with you the most from lessons. Because that is a question coming out of your own desire to learn the material, and that can really help you with connecting with a subject you're learning.
